PODIL OIKONYM WITH A POST-COMPONENT -gorod / -gorodok: HISTORY, CHRONOLOGY AND ETYMOLOGY

The article is devoted to the historical-linguistic study of one-word oikonyms, which are motivated by the lexeme gorod / gorodоk, and names with the second component –gorod. Such names are recorded in various regions of historical Podillia — within the boundaries of modern Vinnytsia, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi regions: Bilogorodka, Vernyhorodok, Horodok, Dzvenigorod and Zvenigorod, Kitaygorod, Komargorod, Kopaigorod, Raigorod, Strazhgorod, Shargorod. The article deals with the structural-semantic and etymological characteristics of the creative bases of the respective oikonyms. The author provides a chronological attribution of the appearance of these settlements.
