ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY

The editorial board of the journal Ukrainian Linguistic Medieval Studies regards the adherence to academic integrity as a fundamental condition for the development of modern humanities. We guarantee the objectivity of expert evaluation and transparency across all stages of the editorial process.

By submitting their materials for publication, authors commit to complying with ethical standards and the legislation of Ukraine. The editorial board ensures a high scientific level of publications and protects the intellectual property rights of every researcher. The collective efforts of authors, reviewers, and editors in upholding these principles strengthen trust in scientific findings and facilitate the integration of Ukrainian Linguistic Medieval Studies into the global scholarly community.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

The activities of the scholarly journal Ukrainian Linguistic Medieval Studies are based on high standards of research quality and unwavering adherence to ethical norms. The journal’s editorial policy is governed by the Law of Ukraine On Academic Integrity, Article 42 of the Law of Ukraine On Education, the provisions of the Ethical Code of a Scientist of Ukraine, and the Law of Ukraine On Copyright and Related Rights, as well as the relevant guidelines provided by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

The Editorial Board requires authors to strictly adhere to the principles of academic integrity, transparency, and personal responsibility for their scholarly achievements. This includes respect for the academic work and intellectual property rights of others, which ensures a high level of scientific publication, prevents conflicts of interest, and guarantees respect and a tolerant attitude toward other members of the academic community.

The Editorial Board encourages authors not only to maintain a high scientific level in the preparation of their articles but also to clearly identify and distinguish the results of their own scholarly activities from those of others.

CRITERIA FOR COMPLIANCE WITH ACADEMIC INTEGRITY PRINCIPLES

The Editorial Board warns against plagiarism in all its forms. To ensure compliance with the principles of academic integrity, materials submitted by an author or a team of authors for publication in Ukrainian Linguistic Medieval Studies must meet the following criteria:

• Originality: Materials must not have been previously published in another journal and must be prepared by the author or team of authors personally and specifically for this publication.
• Translations of Foreign Publications: Materials previously published by the author(s) in a foreign publication in another language may be considered for publication in Ukrainian translation, provided they offer significant research potential for the development of national scientific thought and aim to inform the scholarly community of the findings, with a proper reference to the original source.
• Prevention of Self-Plagiarism: Authors must explicitly state the use of any previously published results from their own research within the text, provide the appropriate citation, justify the inclusion of that portion of the text, and specify any changes or additions made in the new version.
• Proper Attribution: Citations and reproductions of research results, ideas, text fragments, tables, etc., belonging to other authors must be properly formatted and supported by references to the source of information and the author.
• Copyright Clearance: The article must not contain materials for which the authors or copyright holders prohibit use without special consent, unless written permission has been obtained.
• Data Integrity: The manuscript must present reliable information; the author or team of authors must not use fabricated or falsified data.

The Editorial Board does not consider “honest error” or differences in scientific opinion as a violation of integrity.

VERIFICATION PROCEDURE AND LIABILITY FOR VIOLATIONS

The Editorial Board reserves the right to screen submitted materials for plagiarism using specialized services. Authors bear personal responsibility for acts of academic plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other violations as established by the Law of Ukraine On Academic Integrity.

If violations are identified during the editorial process, the Editorial Board will reject the manuscript and notify the author’s or reviewer’s institution (primary affiliation) regarding the breach of academic integrity.

In the event of ethical violations by reviewers or editors, the Editorial Board shall revoke their right to participate in the activities of the journal’s editorial board.

RIGHTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL IN CASES OF SUSPECTED MISCONDUCT

In accordance with Clause 8, Article 42 of the Law of Ukraine On Education, every individual facing an inquiry regarding a breach of academic integrity has the right to:

• Review all materials of the investigation and submit comments regarding them;
• Provide oral or written explanations (personally or through a representative) or decline to provide them;
• Participate in the examination of evidence of the violation;
• Be informed of the date, time, and location of the hearing and be present during the proceedings;
• Appeal the decision to hold them liable through an authorized body or in court.

COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS PROCEDURE REGARDING ETHICAL VIOLATIONS

The Editorial Board of the journal implements a transparent procedure for handling complaints and appeals. Any individual may submit a reasoned complaint regarding breaches of academic integrity or ethical standards via the journal’s official email address.

During the review process, the Editorial Board:

• Forms a working group consisting of Editorial Board members and independent experts to conduct an objective study of the circumstances;
• Conducts an internal investigation, utilizing all available evidence and materials (including plagiarism detection reports and peer review feedback);
• Provides all parties with the opportunity to state their position and offer explanations;
• Makes a collegiate decision to confirm or dismiss the alleged violation and informs the complainant and the individual concerned of the outcome.

Editors handle every appeal confidentially and promptly, guided by the recommendations of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics). In resolving conflict situations, the Editorial Board applies the relevant COPE Flowcharts, ensuring the objectivity and impartiality of the decisions made.
