The work presents a lexicographic study and sample entries for the future “Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language of the Second Half of the 17th–18th Centuries,” compiled based on the “Acts of the Poltava Regimental Court (1683–1750).” The linguistic diversity of this record is analyzed as a source for studying the history of the language and the people within specific temporal and spatial contexts. The study emphasizes the significance of these materials for historical dialectology, the interaction between literary and colloquial language styles, and cross-cultural contacts during the Cossack era.
Keywords: lexicography, Cossack era, Acts of the Poltava Regimental Court, history of the Ukrainian language, official business writing, historical dialectology, loanwords.
