Production terminology represents one of the oldest lexical strata of the Ukrainian language and is characterized by a highly ramified semantic structure that reflects the complexity of professional domains of the period. The study highlights how this lexicographic monument documents an important stage in the formation of the Old Ukrainian lexical system and the development of specialized terminology.

The translated part of the lexicon contains valuable material for tracing the history of the Ukrainian vocabulary, allowing researchers to follow the influence of Latin and Slavic linguistic traditions on professional terminology. The main sources used in the compilation of the lexicon were Ye. Slavynetskyi’s “Latin Lexicon” and G. Knapski’s “Thesaurus”, which demonstrates the continuity of the translation-lexicographic tradition of the time.

The article analyzes the structure of the terms, their classification, and the semantic relations within the sphere of professional and production activities. It underscores the importance of Maksymovych’s dictionary for historical linguistic research and for the reconstruction of early modern Ukrainian professional vocabulary. The study also provides a basis for comparative analysis of similar lexical groups in later dictionaries of the 18th–19th centuries.

Keywords: production terminology, Ivan Maksymovych, 18th-century Ukrainian language.

LEGEND

АУМ І — Matviias, I.H.
