The article identifies the characteristic features of the process of intellectualisation of the Ukrainian language on the basis of abstract lexis; considers the criteria for distinguishing such lexemes (semantic, word-formation); establishes the peculiarities of functioning of abstract lexical and semantic associations at different stages of development of the Ukrainian language. On the part of word formation, the tendency towards unification of derivational means for the structure of an abstract noun (-\u0441\u0442\u0432(\u043e)<\/strong>, -\u0456\u0441\u0442\u044c<\/strong>, -\u0435\u043d\u043d(\u044f)<\/strong>, -\u0430\u043d\u043d(\u044f)<\/strong>, -\u0449\u0438\u043d(\u0430) <\/strong>etc.) is traced and it is established that at the present stage of language development the number of borrowed formants is steadily increasing, as well as the processes of composite formation of abstract names are intensifying.<\/p>\n
